Personalised minifigures with UV printing for a 25th-anniversary event

For Speedmaster GmbH’s 25th-anniversary event, each guest was to receive a personalized keepsake. The company was looking for a small, high-quality set of LEGO® bricks that included a minifigure.

Challenge

In this case, personalizing a large number of minifigures presented some logistical challenges.

Each figure had to be printed with the correct name and then packed into the correct box.

The packages were also labeled with individual labels bearing the first and last names as well as the respective ticket number to ensure clear identification.

In addition, the event (i.e., including different guests) took place over two days. The sets therefore had to be sorted alphabetically, separated by event day, and further distinguished between female and male guests.

Development of the Model

The set was deliberately kept compact and consisted of a small scene (a minifigure with a small kitchen unit) made from original LEGO® bricks. The focus was not on the size of the model, but on the personal connection to each guest.

For the minifigure, the head and headgear were used to distinguish between a female and a male figure. Thanks to the personalized printing, a small set was transformed into a unique keepsake with great sentimental value.

Personalization Using UV Printing

To personalize the minifigures (with the guests’ first names on the torso), we relied on proven UV printing technology. This printing process ensures excellent durability and a high-quality finish.

The special ink cures instantly under UV light, ensuring a clean and durable print. Since we can handle the printing process entirely in-house, we were able to be particularly flexible during the implementation.

The participant data provided by the customer was processed automatically via a CSV file. This allowed the print data to be sent directly to the print files. This automation significantly reduced the amount of manual work and ensured fast and reliable production.

Assembly Instructions and Packaging

The assembly instructions were made available for download in PDF format. Using a QR code on the packaging, guests were able to assemble their model immediately and easily.

Each individual package was labeled with a unique label containing the guest’s name and ticket number, which were also generated automatically using the CSV file provided by the customer. This allowed the sets to be uniquely identified and assigned throughout the entire production process and later during distribution.

Sorting and Packaging

However, the most time-consuming part of the project was not the personalization, but the subsequent packaging.

Since each package was intended for a specific guest, the personalized minifigures had to be assigned to the correct sets during the packing process. The data was then sorted by event date, gender, and alphabetical order.

Result

The result was a high-quality, personalized event giveaway that awaited guests in their hotel rooms. Thanks to UV printing on LEGO® minifigures, each person received a unique model with a personal touch.

The combination of personalized printing, high-quality packaging, and careful preparation left a lasting impression and made the set far more than just a traditional promotional gift.
